Panopticon Trust wishes you a Merry Christmas
We’d like to thank you for your support in 2020 and look forward to 2021.
It’s certainly been a challenging year. Since lockdown in March, the Britannia Panopticon hasn’t been open for performances or events, but the Friends of the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall who operate the music hall continue to work online and have been able to access Covid-19 emergency and recovery funding. We’re all hopeful that next year the doors will open once again.
The year was challenging for the Panopticon Trust too. As a volunteer body we’ve worked through the pandemic, developing our capacity, meeting online and building support and fundraising with all funds going towards our work and the campaign.
Ross King
We were really pleased when Ross King, Scottish television presenter and international celebrity agreed to publicly support the Panopticon Trust’s campaign to raise funds to purchase and restore the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall.
You can read Ross’s message of support and contribute to the Panopticon Building Restoration Fund here.
Trustees
This year we expanded our board of Trustees and were delighted to welcome new members. We are now a group of 12 dedicated people – all experts in our fields, including management and production, fundraising, finance, marketing, conservation engineering, and music hall and popular culture history. Find out more about us here.
Report
We published our first year’s report . We are very grateful to those who helped us prepare this report including our Independent Examiner, Graeme Smith.
Fundraising
Working openly with local, arts and heritage communities is important to us and since publishing our report we have raised a further £3,000 including a grant from the Scottish Community Alliance to develop our community engagement and outreach work online. Our previous engagement plans have been dramatically impacted by the pandemic but moving to a digital model also gives us the potential to reach a broader community of stakeholders.
Survey
As a first step we’ve created the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall Restoration Survey.
We’re interested in hearing what people think currently about the music hall and gathering views on priorities for its restoration. And thank you to those who have already completed it. Please give us your views through the survey by clicking on this link.
Next year – join in and help us
Our priority next year is to progress our Feasibility Study, setting out the way forward for the building. In developing a vision for the Feasibility Study we’d like your help. Building on the results of the survey we’ll be running a number of online, interactive community workshops with groups and individuals across Glasgow.
Look out for invitations and opportunities to join in.
Thank you
Finally we’d really to offer our gratitude and thanks all those individuals who have donated and volunteered time this year and continued thanks to everyone for their support.
As we turn our eyes to the future, we wish you a restful and revitalising festive break and a brighter 2021.
Merry Christmas from us all!
